Why do we keep coming back though if we know it does in fact give us nothing? I am afraid to become uninspired if I log off when in reality spending my time online robs me from actually following my own thoughts and creativity. Instead, I just become a follower

Dear Em, I think you've partly answered your question yourself – We're afraid to become uninspired, since we've gotten used to pulling inspiration from online. Then theres general FOMO, thinking we might miss out on a trend, on our friends posts. Social Media still is a social forum where we "bond" and fill up our deficit of human contact I feel like. Since so many things, we are only able to experience while being online, discussions about fashion week, tea from your niche or not niche creator on your fyp and so on –it feels drug-like. Our need for gossip (not in a negative way but just "knowing" things about others) is a primal one in my opinion. We are social beings, in need of connection and what we lack offline, we substitute. It really seems like a vicious circle..

xx Ruth
